The ambiance definitely set the scale for this fashion, art, and music event that Forever Kings gained the opportunity to attend on the evening of January 2, 2011. From the red carpet entrance, the complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres, to the St. Croix Central High School Jazz ensemble ringing in smooth tunes to set the scene. The
The art museum featured art from famous but late Jean Merwin, as as well as key pieces from Melbourne Gunn, a self taught painter and carver out of Trinidad & Tobago. The focal point of the art museum was undoubtedly to feature the extensive repertoire of Jean Merwin. Its quite evident that her work is strongly influenced by the island’s culture. Trudi Gilman a good friend of Merwin states “She captured that essence of life on a tropical island that kept alive the belief that life is good, one just has to take the time to see it.” With Gilman being a close personal friend of Merwin there is no better way anyone could put it. Her paintings display St. Croix in its essence; a native of the island can do nothing but admire and appreciate her work.
Along with the Art Gallery we got a fashion show featuring pieces from St. Thomas ’ House of Ettienne, by Andre Ettiene who has been designing since 1993. The show displayed the inclusive collection that House of Ettienne has to offer. To culminate the festivities of the evening the CMCA presented a check to the St. Croix Central High School Music Scholarship Fund.
